State College’s ESPN
Radio 1450, The Flagship Station of Penn State Football and Basketball has the
following internship opportunities. Interns will likely be rotated through most
positions below, however we are flexible with times and
schedules.
REPORTER: We broadcast a Friday night High School football wrap up show with
scores and interviews from around the area. Interns will go to area games, get us the score and some
stats from the game, then write and file a game report that will be broadcast during the show. This show airs in multiple Central PA
radio markets. Candidates should have transportation available,(although
transportation with other interns who have transportation can often be worked
out with those who don’t have it available) and be available Friday evenings.
Interested Interns may also accompany our Play by Play/Color crew to State
College Area High School games to watch and learn from experienced
personnel.
NIGHT STUDIO
ASSISTANT: Intern will be at
the studio Friday nights to assist the High School Football producer, collect
scores and record the reports from the field reporters at the
games. Intern will gain
experience in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment.
PRODUCTION ASSISTANT: Intern to be in
studio weekdays between 4 and 7pm.(Actual days flexible) Will edit interviews
from our local daily show and post to our website. Also will help produce
station imaging and promos. Intern will also help produce Thursday “Gamenight
State College” show.
ASSISTANT: On Home
Football Saturday's we do a tailgate show 3 hours before kickoff live in front
of the ticket office at the Bryce Jordan Center. The show airs in multiple
Central PA Radio markets. While Intern will be done BEFORE THE GAME KICKS OFF,
they will help set up and tear down. Intern will also be involved in a contest
during the tailgate show where he/she will be on
the
air.
REPORTER (Home Games): Intern will
accompany Station sports director to the media room in the press box to watch
the game. Then Intern will work the home team media room, feeding the Joe
Paterno post-game press conference to the radio station, record interviews with
players provided, and feed the audio back to the station. Intern must provide
transportation to/from game and will be required to conform to standard media
dress
code.
POST-GAME ASSISTANT:Intern will
assist the PSU Football Post-game show producer in the studio screening calls,
edit incoming audio from the Stadium media room and help to prepare local
scoreboard reports. Intern will need to be at the station by the end
of the
game.
assist the Chief Engineer with various projects at the studio an transmitter
sites, learn the inner-workings of a 6-station cluster, and focus on technical
aspects of the radio stations.
